1) How is the spine center different from a regular PT practice?

The Spine Center has a different approach and philosophy then regular physical therapy. It is a hands off program that focuses on addressing functional limitation and pain through exercise and stretching.

2) Are there different exercises?

There are over 50 different exercises that can be incorporated into an individual’s treatment program based on their condition/diagnosis or functional deficits. The exercises are aimed at challenging large and small muscle groups that provide movement and stability. Strength, flexibility, proper movement patterns, balance, stability and control are key components of the program.

3) When would I get to the spine center versus PT downstairs?

An abundance of research shows that strength training exercises is an important part of treating back pain. There are times when acute pain or other factors need to be addressed before someone can start in the Spine Center. However, most people with back and neck pain are appropriate for this program and can start right away. Everyone receives a thorough assessment on evaluation.

4) Is there a different course of treatment?

The course of treatment is exercise based: it is unique, progressive and aggressive. The equipment has been custom made to treat back and neck pain. It is designed to increase strength, flexibility and overall function with the ultimate goal of reducing pain.

6) Will I hurt myself by working out?

Exercising when in pain can be scary. Unfortunately, starting a new stretching routine or exercise even at light weight can be initially uncomfortable even with light weight. However, our staff has years of experience introducing exercise programs to patients from young athletes to senior citizens. Done properly, people can expect less pain, increased strength, increased flexibility, increased balance, increased overall function with less pain without injury.
